Add the letter values for the compound total, then add its digits until one digit remains. This calculator reduces 11 and 22 too, while keeping the original total visible. No letters are assigned to 9, but a name can reduce to 9.

How Chaldean name numerology works
Chaldean numerology is a traditional symbolic system that assigns numbers to letters. It uses a different letter-value chart from the Pythagorean system.
Each English letter in your name is assigned a value from 1 to 8. Add these values to find the compound total, then add the digits of that total until a single number from 1 to 9 remains. This is the reduced name number shown by this calculator.
- 1
- A · I · J · Q · Y
- 2
- B · K · R
- 3
- C · G · L · S
- 4
- D · M · T
- 5
- E · H · N · X
- 6
- U · V · W
- 7
- O · Z
- 8
- F · P
No letters are assigned to 9, but a name’s total can still reduce to 9. This calculator also reduces totals such as 11 and 22, while keeping the original compound total visible. Different numerology traditions may interpret these totals differently.
How to use the calculator
- Enter the name you want to explore. Use English letters (A–Z), such as your full name or the name you commonly use.
- Select Calculate. Spaces, hyphens, apostrophes and full stops are ignored. Other symbols, digits and non-English letters are not supported.
- Read your breakdown. See each letter’s value, the compound total and every reduction step.
- Explore and reflect. Read the themes below or open the existing number guide from your result. Use Start again to calculate another name.
Example: Aditi Taneja
The same calculation method powers both this example and your result.
Aditi: A (1) + D (4) + I (1) + T (4) + I (1) = 11
Taneja: T (4) + A (1) + N (5) + E (5) + J (1) + A (1) = 17
Compound total: 11 + 17 = 28
Reduction: 2 + 8 = 10; 1 + 0 = 1
28 → 10 → 1
The reduced name number is 1, traditionally associated with independence and initiative. This is a symbolic reflection prompt, not proof of someone’s personality or future.
Understanding your result
Your compound total is the sum before reduction; your reduced number is its single-digit expression. Neither is a score, and no number is inherently better than another.
The following are broad themes commonly used in numerological interpretation. Interpretations vary by practitioner; use them as invitations for reflection rather than fixed labels, predictions or reasons to change your name.
- 1 · Independence & initiative
- Where could you take the lead while staying open to others?
- 2 · Cooperation & sensitivity
- How can you balance connection with your own needs?
- 3 · Expression & creativity
- What would you like to communicate or create?
- 4 · Structure & persistence
- Which routines support what matters to you?
- 5 · Adaptability & exploration
- How can you welcome change without losing focus?
- 6 · Care & responsibility
- Where can you offer care without overextending yourself?
- 7 · Reflection & inquiry
- What deserves more thoughtful exploration?
- 8 · Organisation & ambition
- How can you use responsibility and resources thoughtfully?
- 9 · Compassion & broader perspective
- What contribution feels meaningful to you?
A name number uses letters, not your date of birth. It is different from Mulank (birth-day number) and Bhagyank (full birth-date number). Numerology is not a scientific assessment and does not guarantee health, relationship, financial or career outcomes.
Frequently asked questions
Is this name number calculator free?
Yes. No sign-up or payment is required. Your name is calculated in your browser and is not submitted to us.
Which name should I enter?
Enter the name whose spelling you want to explore, written in English letters. You can compare a full name and a commonly used name, but their totals may differ because the letters differ.
Is Chaldean numerology the same as Pythagorean numerology?
No. They use different letter-value charts, so the same spelling can produce different totals. This calculator uses the Chaldean chart displayed above.
Why are there no letters assigned to 9?
The traditional Chaldean letter chart assigns values only from 1 to 8. However, adding and reducing those values can produce a final name number of 9.
Does the calculator retain 11 or 22 as the final result?
No. It reduces them to 2 and 4 respectively, while displaying the compound total and reduction steps. Some other numerology approaches retain these totals.
Will changing my name guarantee better outcomes?
No. A numerical result cannot guarantee a change in your circumstances. Treat it as a self-reflection tool, not a substitute for practical decisions or professional advice.
